2026 Election Results
Live counts for every Senate, House and governor race, with a needle on each one that estimates where the count will finish once every vote is in.
How to read the needle
A raw vote count tells you who is ahead in the ballots counted so far, which is rarely who will win. Different kinds of votes are counted at different times — mail ballots early in some states and last in others, cities after suburbs or before them — so the lead in the count can swing hard before the night is over. The needle is our estimate of where the count will end up.
Before any votes are counted, every needle sits on the ElectIndex forecast. As counties report, we compare each one with what we expected from it, measure how far the actual results are running ahead of or behind that expectation, and project the votes still out. The needle points at the most likely final margin; the shaded band around it shows the range we think the result could still land in, and it narrows as more of the vote is counted.
A race call always comes from the news organization we take results from, never from the needle. Once a race is called, its needle stops moving. Uncontested races carry no needle at all. In Alaska and Maine, which use ranked-choice voting, the count you see is first choices only; the needle adds the transfers our forecast expects from later rounds, so it points at the final-round result, which can have a different winner from the first-choice leader.
