Introduction

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to record historical lows as people are unhappy with how he is managing the country, especially in regards to the economy and the Iran War. According to our numbers at ElectIndex, only 39% of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance while 58% disapprove, giving him an abysmal -19.7 net approval rating. This approval rating is especially damaging for the Republicans, because presidential approval has historically been closely tied to how the president’s party performs in midterm elections. With the 2026 midterms coming up, Trump’s job performance has dominated the prelude to the election, and this is causing a massive problem for Republicans, especially as more people who support Republicans are also showing they are not happy with him anymore.
